S   O   U   T   H   W   E   L   L

Here are my photographs of Southwell Minster (it also goes by the less catchy title of 'The Cathedral and Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary'). Southwell is the smallest Cathedral/Minster Town in the UK in fact the Minster now seems too big for the Town. There is an equal mixture of 12th century Norman and 13th century early English Gothic style architecture unlike most other cathedrals and minsters that have been mainly rebuilt in the gothic style over the top of the original Norman stonework so it is very interesting to look around to see the differences in styles
There are also some curiosities worth viewing like the large west window which was actually 'painted' in 1996, also the octagonal chapter house is worth viewing due to it unusually having no centre pillar to hold the weight! true great design and engineering and the only one of two of it's kind in the UK (York being the other)
The photographs were taken on the 19th of June 2004.
I would give this location 4.5 stars in friendliness towards photographers, you are asked to pay a small amount for a photography permit to take internal photos but you are then free to wander around
